Earthquake Highlights Regional Seismic Activity
Earthquakes originating in Albania are not unusual in the region, which is considered seismically active because of ongoing tectonic activity across the Balkans.
Previous earthquakes with epicenters in Albania have also been felt in Macedonia and other neighboring countries.
The strength of an earthquake as experienced by residents can vary depending on several factors.
These include the distance from the epicenter, the depth of the earthquake and local ground conditions.
As a result, an earthquake of the same magnitude can be felt differently in different locations.
For residents of Struga and the surrounding area, the latest event serves as another reminder of the region’s seismic activity.
Seismological institutions continue to monitor such events and provide information to the public when earthquakes are detected.
