Bosnia and Herzegovina Builds 250 Kilometres of Motorways in 25 Years

Twenty-five years after work began on its motorway network, Bosnia and Herzegovina has built around 250 kilometres of motorways but still lacks a fully connected network and has yet to complete the entire European Corridor Vc linking the country’s north with the Adriatic coast.

The first motorway section in the country opened in 2002 with the 37-kilometre Jošanica–Podlugovi route. Since then, construction has continued at a gradual pace, with the Corridor Vc project remaining the country’s largest transport infrastructure undertaking.

Despite the progress, key sections of the corridor are still under construction, preventing uninterrupted motorway travel from the Croatian border in the north to the southern border near the Adriatic. Authorities continue to prioritize the completion of the remaining sections, which are expected to improve regional connectivity and facilitate trade and travel.

Corridor Vc, which forms part of the European transport network, is considered strategically important for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s economic development and integration with neighbouring countries and the European Union.
