Croatian military pilots carried out an emergency medical flight Thursday evening, transporting a pregnant woman in life-threatening condition from Dubrovnik to a hospital in Split.
The operation began after the Croatian Air Force received an urgent request for medical transportation from Dubrovnik General Hospital.
A four-member crew from the 395th Transport Helicopter Squadron, part of the Croatian Air Force’s 93rd Wing, departed from the “Knez Trpimir” military base in Divulje aboard an Mi-171Sh helicopter.
The woman was transported to the University Hospital Center Split under the supervision of two medical team members. She was transferred as quickly as possible so she could receive additional medical care.
The helicopter’s commanding officer said every emergency medical flight involves significant responsibility, but the pressure is even greater when the mission involves both a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
“Every emergency flight carries great responsibility, but when you are helping a mother and her unborn child, that responsibility is even greater and the feeling is even stronger,” the commander said.
The emergency mission highlighted the role of Croatia’s military aviation crews in responding to situations in which every minute can be critical to saving lives.
