Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia have officially joined forces in a bid to host the Men’s Handball Euro 2034, submitting a joint candidacy to the European Handball Federation. The three national federations say they want to organize one of Europe’s biggest handball events together and believe they have the experience, infrastructure and organizational capacity required for the tournament.
The joint bid now enters a preparation phase in which the three federations will work together on a complete application that must meet all requirements set by the EHF. The final decision on the host of the 2034 European Championship will be made after that process is completed.
Three Federations Join Forces for Euro 2034
The presidents of the three handball federations presented the candidacy as a major opportunity for the region and for the development of handball in all three countries. Their joint approach is based on combining sporting tradition with existing venues, hotels and broader organizational infrastructure.
Macedonian Handball Federation president Aleksandar Stefanov described the candidacy as an important step for Macedonian handball. He emphasized that Macedonia is a handball country where the sport has been deeply rooted in sporting tradition and history for decades.
According to Stefanov, the bid represents an opportunity for another major step forward and a chance to confirm that Macedonia has the capacity to participate in organizing the biggest European handball events.
From the Serbian side, Božidar Đurković highlighted the organizational potential of the three countries. He pointed specifically to sports halls, hotels and the wider infrastructure needed to stage a tournament of this scale.
Slovenian federation president Bor Rozman said the joint project would have significance beyond handball itself. He argued that hosting the championship could also produce positive effects for the cities and countries involved.
EHF to Decide the Host After Full Bid Is Prepared
The Men’s Handball Euro 2034 bid will now require intensive cooperation between Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia as they prepare the full documentation and organizational plan. The federations will have to demonstrate that their proposal satisfies all criteria established by the European Handball Federation.
The candidacy is therefore only the beginning of the process. Once the full bid has been prepared and submitted in accordance with EHF requirements, the European federation will make the final decision on which country or group of countries will host the championship in 2034.
For Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia, the joint application brings together three countries with established handball traditions around a single hosting project. Their federations are presenting the bid as a shared effort to stage the European Championship at the highest organizational level.
