Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić says the government will soon reveal how much salaries and pensions will increase, with the exact figures expected to be announced within the next three to four days. Speaking during a visit to Rusko Selo near Kikinda on September 3, Vučić said citizens would not have to wait much longer for details about the planned increases. The announcement comes as Serbia prepares a series of financial measures aimed at supporting pensioners, employees and other groups receiving state assistance. Vučić also said that a one time payment for pensioners, veterans and social assistance recipients is expected to begin in about 10 days. He indicated that additional payments connected to the state’s investment fund would follow, presenting the measures as further support for citizens amid what he described as difficult international economic conditions.
The president has previously indicated that pensions will receive another increase before the end of 2026 and that the government wants pension growth to increasingly follow wage growth. Earlier announcements had suggested that the exact percentage would become known around the beginning of September, with the latest statement narrowing the expected announcement to just a few days. A pensioners’ union has separately argued that an increase of around 15 percent would be appropriate, although no final percentage has been officially confirmed. For millions of people in Serbia, the upcoming announcement could have a direct impact on household budgets and monthly income. The government has not yet released the final percentages for either salaries or pensions, meaning citizens are still waiting for the official figures. Vučić’s latest statement suggests that the details should be made public shortly, potentially providing a clearer picture of how much incomes will rise and when the new amounts will begin to be reflected in payments.
