Queen Mary of Denmark stepped out in a striking white-and-gold dress by Australian designer of Macedonian heritage Toni Maticevski. She wore the creation at the Carlsberg Foundation’s 150th anniversary celebration at Frederiksborg Castle.

The royal event took place on September 25 in Hillerød. King Frederik X and Queen Mary attended the celebration, which also included the unveiling of the King’s first official painted portrait since his accession to the throne.

For Maticevski, the appearance adds another royal moment to a career that has seen his designs worn by prominent figures in entertainment and fashion.

Queen Mary Returns to Toni Maticevski Design

Queen Mary chose a sleeveless midi dress from her existing royal wardrobe for the occasion. The white design features a fitted bodice, defined waist and a sculptural layered skirt.

Gold detailing runs across the white fabric, complementing the dress’s petal-like construction. The Queen completed the look with gold accessories and slingback shoes.

The dress is not a new addition to her wardrobe. Queen Mary has owned the Maticevski creation for more than a decade. She previously wore it for a magazine photoshoot in 2013 and again during celebrations for Prince Henrik’s 80th birthday in 2014.

The September event marked exactly 150 years since brewer J.C. Jacobsen established the Carlsberg Foundation on September 25, 1876. During the celebration, King Frederik unveiled a new portrait painted by Danish artist Cathrine Raben Davidsen.

Toni Maticevski Built an International Fashion Career

Maticevski was born in Melbourne to parents who migrated to Australia from Macedonia. He grew up in Melbourne and later studied fashion at RMIT University.

After graduating, Maticevski gained international experience in New York and Paris before returning to Melbourne. He launched his own label in 1998.

His work has since become known for sculptural silhouettes, elaborate construction and an artistic approach to fabric. His designs have also appeared on major international celebrities, including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Heidi Klum and Penélope Cruz.

Queen Mary’s decision to return to one of his designs more than a decade after first wearing it highlights the longevity of Maticevski’s work in her royal wardrobe.

The appearance also places a designer with Macedonian roots at the center of a major Danish royal event, alongside celebrations marking one of Denmark’s historic foundations.
