The 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon will take place this Sunday, October 11, bringing approximately 55,000 runners from around the world including participants from the Balkan community — will take part in this iconic race in Chicago. The race starts and finishes in Grant Park and passes through 29 Chicago neighborhoods, with an estimated 1.7 million spectators expected along the course.
The professional races begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by three waves of participants starting at 7:35, 8:00 and 8:35 a.m. Grant Park will open to spectators at 9:30 a.m.

Major Street Closures
Chicago residents should prepare for significant traffic disruptions. Streets along the marathon route will begin closing at 6:00 a.m. Sunday, with roads reopening as runners pass through. Some closures will continue until the afternoon, and Columbus Drive around the finish area will remain affected through Monday.
CTA and Metra are adding service to help runners and spectators reach Grant Park and locations along the route. Officials are encouraging passengers to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
The Chicago Marathon is one of the world’s major marathon events and is known for its flat, fast course, enthusiastic crowds and iconic route through neighborhoods including Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Pilsen and Chinatown.
For Chicago residents and visitors, Sunday will be a major day of sports, celebration and significant traffic changes throughout the city.
