The Serbian tennis superstar overcame a slow start to defeat Ugo Humbert 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, securing his place in the round of 16 against Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff.
Novak Djokovic made his return to the ATP 500 tournament in Basel for the first time in 15 years, accepting a wildcard invitation from the organizers and marking his comeback with a hard-fought victory.
The Serbian star faced a challenging test against Frenchman Ugo Humbert, who took the opening set 6-4 and put Djokovic under pressure early in the match.
Humbert continued to challenge the former world No. 1 in the second set, coming close to breaking his serve. Djokovic, however, saved the break points and gradually found his rhythm.
The turning point came when Djokovic broke Humbert’s serve in the following game, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead. From there, he took control and closed out the second set 6-3 to level the match.
The decisive third set brought another demanding battle. Despite experiencing some physical difficulties, Humbert continued to resist, forcing Djokovic to work for every advantage.
After approximately two and a half hours on court, Djokovic finally secured the win, completing the comeback with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.
The result sends Djokovic into the round of 16, where he is scheduled to face Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff as he continues his campaign in Basel.
