The victories give Democrats control of the chamber and greater power to shape legislation and oversee the Trump administration during the next two years.

US House representatives projected winners

House: Democrats Flip Key Republican Seats and Regain Control of the Lower Chamber

House: Democrats are projected to regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives after flipping several Republican-held seats in key districts across the country. The victories include competitive races in Iowa, Virginia, Nebraska, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The shift would end the Republicans’ House majority and give Democrats control of both chambers of Congress, allowing them to lead congressional investigations, oversee the Trump administration and challenge the president’s legislative agenda.

Democratic Congressman Robert Garcia, expected to become chairman of the House Oversight Committee, signaled that investigations into the administration would be a priority.
