Over 2,000 Soldiers Without Status? Union Targets Macedonia’s Defense Ministry

The situation in the Army has significantly deteriorated due to unlawful actions, claims the president of the Independent Trade Union of Professional Soldiers, Aleksandar Naskovski. He accuses the Minister of Defense, Vlado Misajlovski, of failing to adopt a legally required plan for soldiers.

According to the union, decisions on discrimination identified by competent institutions have been ignored, and over 2,000 soldiers have not had their employment status transformed.

The union is calling for an inspection and announces legal proceedings. Estimated penalties range up to €19,000, with the possibility of reaching as much as €2 million.

The Ministry of Defense denies the allegations, stating that it fully complies with all legal and by-law regulations. They emphasize that decisions on employment transformation are made on time and delivered before soldiers reach the age of 45.

The Ministry also adds that discussions with union representatives are ongoing to resolve the status of soldiers who have reached that age.
