Macedonia Pays Tribute to Holocaust Victims

Macedonia honored the victims of the Holocaust with a series of commemorative events, paying respect to the thousands of Macedonian Jews who perished during World War II.

State officials, representatives of the Jewish community, and citizens gathered to mark the трагичната судбина of over 7,000 Macedonian Jews who were deported in 1943 to the Treblinka death camp, where the vast majority were killed.

During the ceremonies, speakers emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory and preventing any form of denial or distortion of the Holocaust. Wreaths were laid and moments of silence were observed in honor of the victims.

Officials highlighted that remembrance is not only a tribute to those who suffered but also a responsibility for future generations—to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated.

The events also reminded us of the once-vibrant Jewish community in Macedonia, which the war almost destroyed.
