A new government decision introducing fuel relief measures has officially come into force in Republika Srpska, aiming to ease the burden of rising fuel costs on citizens and businesses.
Under the measure, authorities have waived part of the excise duty on fuel—amounting to approximately 10 fening (around €0.05) per liter—effectively lowering prices at the pump. The policy is designed as a short-term intervention and is expected to remain in place until mid-May.
Officials say the move comes in response to ongoing disruptions in the oil market and increasing pressure on household budgets. The subsidy is applied directly at fuel stations, meaning consumers receive the discount immediately when purchasing fuel.
More than a hundred fuel stations across the entity are participating in the program, ensuring nationwide coverage and accessibility for drivers.
The government has framed the measure as targeted economic support, particularly for sectors heavily dependent on fuel, such as agriculture and transport. However, it also represents a fiscal sacrifice, as authorities temporarily forgo a portion of budget revenues derived from fuel excise taxes.
While welcomed by many, the move highlights broader concerns about fuel price volatility and the need for longer-term solutions in the energy market.
