One Person Killed After Explosion in Split Underpass, Investigation Underway

A powerful explosion in an underpass in Split left one person dead, prompting a large police response and the temporary closure of part of the surrounding area.

Authorities said emergency services were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident was reported late last night. Police secured the site, blocked access to the wider area and launched an investigation to determine exactly what happened.

According to the information released so far, investigators have not identified indications of a criminal act. However, officials said the circumstances of the explosion, as well as the final details surrounding the victim, will only be clarified after the inquiry is completed.

The blast led to traffic restrictions at one of the city’s entrances, with access closed from Domovinskog Rata Street in Ravne Njive to the intersection with Solinski Street while police carried out their work.

Local media reported that the body of one person was found near the underground passage connecting Ravne Njive and Kacunari. Ambulance teams also responded at the scene, while pedestrian access points in the area were sealed off with police tape.

As the investigation continued, unverified information circulated on social media, but officials have not confirmed those claims. For now, authorities are focusing on establishing the exact cause of the explosion and the full sequence of events.
