Israeli Strikes in Southern Lebanon Leave Five Dead, Including Local Journalist

At least five people were killed in a series of Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, according to Lebanese media and official reports, in an escalation that adds new tension to an already fragile ceasefire.

The first strike reportedly targeted a vehicle in the village of at-Tiri, where two people were killed. The Israeli military said it had struck two vehicles that had left a site it described as a Hezbollah military facility in southern Lebanon.

Later in the day, another attack hit a building in the same area, where journalists had reportedly taken shelter while covering the aftermath of the earlier strike. Lebanese outlet Al Akhbar said one of its journalists, Amal Khalil, was killed. She was initially reported trapped beneath the rubble before her death was confirmed.

Another journalist from the same outlet, Zeinab Faraj, was also injured in the attack and was taken to hospital in critical condition, according to local reports.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said the journalists had come under fire after reaching the scene, while the National News Agency reported that a road connecting at-Tiri with nearby Haddatha was also struck, complicating rescue efforts and delaying the arrival of ambulances and emergency teams.

The incident has drawn renewed attention to the risks faced by civilians and media workers in southern Lebanon, where cross-border violence and air strikes continue to threaten the stability of the ceasefire.
