Former Football Federation president Muamed Sejdini has been arrested as part of an investigation into suspected financial wrongdoing involving funds allocated for sports infrastructure. Authorities say the case centers on the alleged misuse of around €700,000 provided by UEFA for the construction of a stadium stand in Ohrid.
The operation was carried out by the Ministry of Interior of Macedonia in cooperation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office Skopje. Officials confirmed that the suspect was detained on suspicion of fraud and abuse of office, while investigators continue gathering evidence and conducting additional actions related to the case.
Sejdini led the Football Federation of Macedonia for two terms between 2019 and 2025. The investigation focuses on the construction of a grandstand at the Biljanini Izvori Stadium, where prosecutors allege he signed a contract that included a 20% advance payment clause not approved in the original tender decision. Authorities claim the advance was paid without a bank guarantee or proper authorization, raising suspicions of financial misconduct.
The arrest follows Sejdini’s recent two year suspension from football activities after internal findings concluded he misled the federation’s executive board during the project approval process. Investigators are now examining the broader financial trail and have not ruled out further developments in the case.
The situation marks a significant development for Macedonian football governance and highlights ongoing efforts to tackle corruption and financial abuse in sports administration. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.
