The United States has reported the interception of a vessel accused of transporting Iranian oil, marking another development in the growing maritime standoff linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
According to a statement published by the US Department of Defense on X, American forces carried out a boarding operation on the M/T Majestic X in the Indian Ocean. The vessel was described as a sanctioned and stateless ship allegedly involved in carrying oil from Iran.
US officials said the operation was part of a broader effort to target ships suspected of supporting Iran through prohibited trade activities. Washington has indicated that similar actions could continue against vessels believed to be helping Iran bypass restrictions.
A maritime interdiction generally refers to the stopping, inspection or boarding of a ship by naval forces when there are suspicions of legal violations or hostile activity. In this case, the interception took place far from Iranian waters, in the Indian Ocean, rather than directly inside the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest move comes amid an ongoing period of heightened tension in regional shipping routes. Since the start of the US naval pressure campaign connected to Iran, multiple vessels have reportedly been stopped or redirected, underlining the wider impact on trade and security in one of the world’s most sensitive maritime corridors.
