U.S. military forces have stopped a crude oil tanker that was reportedly heading toward an Iranian port, in the latest maritime incident linked to heightened security measures around Iran’s shipping routes.
According to information attributed to U.S. Central Command, the operation involved the guided-missile destroyer USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115). The vessel intercepted was identified as the M/T Stream, a tanker carrying crude oil.
The tanker was reportedly moving toward a port destination in Iran when U.S. forces intervened and halted its movement. The action comes amid broader U.S. efforts to monitor and restrict maritime traffic connected to Iran, as tensions in the region continue to affect shipping and energy routes.
The incident took place on Sunday, but several key details remain unclear. U.S. officials have not publicly disclosed the exact location of the interception, nor have they explained how the tanker was tracked and identified before the operation.
Washington has not released further information about the case, while the interception remains part of wider security operations in and around strategic maritime routes linked to Iran.
