Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has called on the UN Security Council to take a more active role in addressing the worsening situation in Lebanon and Gaza, warning that continued inaction could deepen instability across the Middle East.
Speaking during a Security Council session focused on regional developments, Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani said the international community must not remain a passive observer. He urged the Council to ensure full respect for ceasefire arrangements and called for an immediate halt to Israeli attacks that, according to Tehran, are affecting civilians and critical infrastructure.
Iravani also demanded Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory, arguing that such a step is necessary to prevent further escalation and protect regional security.
The Iranian diplomat broadened his remarks beyond Lebanon, criticizing both the United States and Israel over what he described as attacks against Iran. He presented those incidents as part of a wider pattern of regional confrontation that, in Iran’s view, risks pushing the Middle East into a more dangerous phase.
He also condemned Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and the Golan Heights, saying they continue to fuel tensions and worsen the humanitarian and security situation.
In his closing remarks, Iravani said the current crisis requires a stronger and more decisive response from the United Nations. He warned that without meaningful international action, the region could face a further spread of violence and political instability.
