Macedonia welcomed Swiss President Guy Parmelin on an official visit marked by the highest state and military honors, in what officials described as a historic moment in relations between the two countries.
President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova received Parmelin at a formal ceremony, emphasizing the importance of the visit as the first official trip by a Swiss president to Macedonia. The meeting focused on the broader bilateral relationship, which both sides assessed as friendly, constructive and productive over the past three decades.
According to Siljanovska-Davkova, Switzerland’s continued support for Macedonia’s European integration remains an important part of the partnership between the two countries. She also expressed gratitude for Swiss assistance and donations in several key areas, including the rule of law, democratic institution-building, green and renewable energy, and the protection of natural resources, with particular emphasis on water.
The president said the visit confirmed the strength of the partnership between Macedonia and Switzerland and opened space for further cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The official reception and talks in Skopje were presented as a sign of the strong diplomatic ties between the two countries and as an opportunity to reaffirm Switzerland’s role as an important partner in Macedonia’s reform and development agenda.
