Drivers traveling through Croatia should prepare for overnight closures on the A1 motorway, with two separate sections scheduled to shut down over consecutive nights. The first closure will begin at 10 p.m. on September 2 and continue until 5 a.m. on September 3, affecting traffic in both directions between the Skradin and Šibenik interchanges. The temporary shutdown is connected to roadwork and is expected to affect motorists traveling through one of Croatia’s most important motorway corridors. Drivers will not be able to continue directly along the A1 through the closed section and will instead have to follow a designated alternative route. Authorities are urging motorists to pay close attention to temporary traffic signs and allow additional time for their journeys, particularly during the evening and early morning hours when the restrictions will be in effect.
During the first closure, traffic will be diverted away from the A1 through a combination of state roads. Motorists traveling from the Skradin interchange toward Šibenik will be directed along DC56 and DC33 before reconnecting with the motorway at the Šibenik interchange. The same route will be used for drivers traveling in the opposite direction. In addition to the complete closure between the two interchanges, motorists should expect temporary interruptions around the Skradin and Šibenik toll plazas. These interruptions can occur several times while work is being carried out, with each individual traffic stop lasting no more than 15 minutes. The combination of the closure and temporary stoppages means drivers could experience slower journeys than usual, especially if traffic volumes increase during the night.
The disruption will not end after the first night. Another major closure is scheduled for the following night, from 10 p.m. on September 3 until 5 a.m. on September 4. This time, the affected section will run between the Šibenik and Danilo interchanges, again in both directions, and the Podi interchange will also be included in the closure. Drivers will once again be redirected onto alternative roads rather than being allowed to pass through the closed motorway section. The planned detour will run from the Šibenik interchange via D33, D8, D58 and D531 before reaching the Danilo interchange, with the same route available in the opposite direction. Motorists unfamiliar with the area may want to plan their route in advance to avoid confusion when reaching the motorway closure.
With two consecutive nights of restrictions, authorities are warning drivers to expect possible congestion and longer travel times on the surrounding roads. The closures are temporary, but they could have a noticeable impact on people traveling through the Šibenik area, particularly those making longer overnight journeys along the A1. Drivers are advised to follow the temporary signs, respect instructions from traffic authorities and allow extra time when planning their trips. Anyone who does not need to travel during the affected hours may also want to consider adjusting their departure time. The closures are expected to remain in place only during the specified overnight periods, after which normal traffic on the affected motorway sections should resume, subject to the progress of the ongoing work.
