Serbian Film Festival Returns to Washington With Branka Katić and Nikola Đuričko

The Serbian Film Festival in Washington returns for its third edition from October 16 to 18, bringing contemporary Serbian cinema and some of the country’s best-known actors and filmmakers to the U.S. capital.

The three-day festival will take place at Eaton Cinema and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, featuring film screenings, discussions with filmmakers and special appearances by prominent Serbian artists.

This year’s special guests include acclaimed actors Branka Katić and Nikola Đuričko, as well as filmmakers Predrag Ličina and Đorđe Vranješ.

Three Days of Serbian Cinema in Washington

The Serbian Film Festival opens on Friday, October 16, with screenings of “Karmadona,” “Wanderlust,” Serbia’s candidate for the 2027 Academy Awards, and “Jugo Florida.”

The opening night will also feature a special panel titled “Acting Across Languages and Cultures.” Katić and Đuričko will discuss their careers and experiences working in international film, television and theater productions.

On Saturday, October 17, audiences will be able to see “Sportsko srce,” “Svadba,” “Mileva Ajnštajn” and “Oče naš.”

The second day will conclude with “An Evening with Branka Katić,” featuring screenings of the short films “Daj gas” and “Milena,” followed by a conversation with the audience.

The festival concludes on Sunday, October 18, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library with screenings of “Povratak Žikine dinastije” and “Virus patološke dobrote.”

Following the screenings, actor Nikola Đuričko, director and screenwriter Predrag Ličina and producer Đorđe Vranješ will discuss their work and offer insights into contemporary Serbian filmmaking.

Branka Katić to Receive APEX Award

The closing ceremony will include the presentation of the APEX Award to Branka Katić for her outstanding contribution to Serbian film and her long-standing artistic achievements.

The festival will also announce the winner of the “Audience Choice for Best Film,” recognizing the movie that made the strongest impression on festivalgoers.

Through screenings and conversations with artists from Serbia and the Serbian diaspora, the Serbian Film Festival in Washington aims to strengthen cultural connections and introduce a wider American audience to contemporary Serbian cinema.
