Macedonian marathon runner Dario Ivanovski has secured a place at the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China, following his bronze-medal performance at the Skopje Marathon.
Ivanovski currently ranks 65th in the marathon qualification standings, placing him among the top 100 athletes expected to compete at the global championship.
His coach, Igor Jakimovski, confirmed the achievement, explaining that Ivanovski has already accumulated enough ranking points to qualify, even without competing in another race before the championships.
Skopje Marathon Bronze Strengthens Ivanovski’s Ranking
Ivanovski’s performance at the Skopje Marathon played a significant role in his qualification campaign.
According to Jakimovski, the Skopje Marathon meets international ranking standards, allowing athletes to earn points toward major athletics competitions.
The race provided Ivanovski with his second-best result of the current qualification cycle.
Combined with his previous performance at the Belgrade Marathon, the result helped him reach 65th place in the qualification standings.
Jakimovski expressed confidence that the accumulated points would be sufficient to secure the Macedonian runner’s participation in Beijing.
The coach said Ivanovski had already qualified for the championships, even if he did not compete again before the event.
Beijing World Championships Scheduled for September 2027
The 2027 World Athletics Championships are scheduled to take place in Beijing from September 10 to 19.
The marathon will begin at the Beijing National Stadium, widely known as the Bird’s Nest, which hosted major events during the 2008 Olympic Games.
For Ivanovski, competing in Beijing would represent another significant appearance on the international athletics stage.
His latest achievement also highlights the importance of internationally recognized road races in helping Macedonian athletes compete at major global events.
Ivanovski’s qualification position reflects the results he has achieved across multiple marathon competitions, including his recent bronze-medal finish in Skopje.
