Ten journalists have resigned from Serbia’s N1 television, with the broadcaster confirming their departures and expressing regret over the decision of their colleagues.
The journalists leaving the newsroom are Adam Santovac, Žaklina Tatalović, Žana Bulajić, Dimitrije Đurić, Ana Novaković, Danica Vučenić, Mia Bjelogrlić, Sanja Kosović, Ksenija Pavkov and Nataša Miljković.
In a statement published on Friday, N1’s editorial team paid tribute to the departing journalists, highlighting their shared history of investigative reporting, awards and extensive live coverage of major events across Serbia.
“We wish them all the best and all the happiness, and we say — thank you for everything we have accomplished. Together,” the newsroom said.
The statement recalled the team’s investigative stories, numerous awards, reporting trips across Serbia and 24 hours of continuous live programming. It also highlighted the challenges journalists had faced together, including fires, floods, the pandemic, tear gas, threats, attacks and professional pressure.
“It was an honor to share all of that with you,” the statement added.
N1 Vows to Uphold Professional Standards
The newsroom described the departures as particularly concerning given the timing, pledging to continue its work in accordance with the professional and ethical principles that have guided its reporting.
“We are continuing our journey separately. That makes our struggle more difficult, but we will not abandon the professional and moral principles that have always guided us,” the statement said.
N1 also reaffirmed its commitment to truth and sent a message to the departing journalists: “Thank you, dear colleagues. See you soon in the field.”
Departures Amid Wider Concerns Over Media Independence
The resignations come amid tensions at Nova.rs, a news outlet belonging to the same media group as N1.
According to the report, Nova.rs journalists have been facing pressure from management and have refused to accept a new editor-in-chief, expressing concerns that the appointment could lower professional reporting standards and undermine the outlet’s editorial independence.
The departures from N1 add to concerns about the working environment and the independence of newsrooms within the media group at a time when questions surrounding editorial control and professional journalism remain central to the Serbian media landscape.
