The billionaire says he will give one SpaceX share to every American child starting next year, in a potential giveaway worth more than $10 billion.
Elon Musk has pledged to give every child in America one share of his aerospace company, SpaceX, beginning in 2027.
“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many,” Musk wrote in a post on X on Monday, October 19, 2026.
With approximately 73 million children under the age of 18 in the United States, the proposed giveaway could be worth around $10.7 billion, based on SpaceX’s recent share price of $146.03.
However, Musk has not yet explained how the shares would be distributed, what eligibility requirements would apply, or whether all children living in the United States would qualify.
The announcement followed a separate initiative by artificial intelligence company Anthropic to dedicate 5% of its shares to a newly established public benefit fund. Musk responded by arguing that shares should be distributed directly to the public.
Musk described the proposed gift as the first of several planned initiatives, although he has not provided further details about future giveaways.
The proposal has attracted attention because of its potential scale, but it remains a pledge rather than a fully detailed distribution program.
