The rap superstar is reportedly set to take center stage at Super Bowl LXI in Los Angeles, potentially becoming the latest music executive to select himself for the world’s biggest sporting event. Neither the NFL nor Roc Nation has confirmed the news.
Jay-Z has reportedly chosen himself to headline the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show, according to a new report by Puck News published Tuesday, October 20.
The rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, is said to have selected himself over other artists reportedly considered for the performance, including Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.
The announcement has not been officially confirmed. Representatives for Jay-Z, his entertainment company Roc Nation and the NFL did not respond to Puck News‘ request for comment.
Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, making the event fall on Valentine’s Day.
From Choosing the Performers to Taking the Stage
Jay-Z has played a major role in shaping the Super Bowl halftime show since Roc Nation entered into a partnership with the NFL in 2019. The company was brought on to help curate and produce the performances, and the partnership was extended for another five years in 2024.
Under the arrangement, Jay-Z has become an influential figure in selecting some of the world’s biggest musical acts for the event.
Previous performers selected during the partnership include Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar in 2022; Rihanna in 2023; Usher in 2024; Kendrick Lamar in 2025; and Bad Bunny in 2026.
If the report proves accurate, the 2027 show would mark Jay-Z’s first time headlining the Super Bowl halftime stage.
A Potential Appearance by Beyoncé?
Fans are already speculating about whether Beyoncé might join her husband for the performance.
The couple could potentially perform some of their best-known collaborations, including their 2003 hit “Crazy in Love.” However, there has been no confirmation that Beyoncé would appear as a special guest.
Beyoncé previously headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2013 in New Orleans. She returned as a guest during Coldplay’s performance in 2016, appearing alongside Bruno Mars.
A Jay-Z and Beyoncé performance would bring together two artists with extensive Super Bowl experience, although a joint appearance remains speculation.
A Career Celebrating Three Decades
The reported selection comes during a period in which Jay-Z has been celebrating major milestones in his music career.
In 2026, the rapper marked 30 years since his debut album, Reasonable Doubt, and 25 years since the release of The Blueprint.
His three sold-out concerts at Yankee Stadium in July reportedly grossed more than $42 million. He has also performed high-profile shows in Paris and London.
Jay-Z has not released a studio album since 4:44 in 2017, but his recent live performances have demonstrated continued demand for his music.
According to Puck News, Jay-Z could formally announce his participation during his upcoming performances at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on October 23 and 24. That possibility has not been confirmed.
The Super Bowl halftime show attracts one of the largest television audiences in the world, making the headlining performance a major platform for artists.
For now, Jay-Z’s reported selection remains unconfirmed, but the prospect of the rapper taking over the halftime stage has already generated considerable attention in the music industry.
