Croatia Opens Largest Electric Bus Charging Station in Zagreb

Croatia has opened its largest electric bus charging station in Zagreb, marking a major step toward cleaner public transportation and the expansion of zero emission buses in the country. The Croatia electric bus charging station was completed by Zagreb Electric Tram (ZET) and will provide the infrastructure needed to support the city’s growing electric bus fleet. The new facility is located at ZET’s bus depot in the Podsused district of Zagreb and can charge up to 134 electric buses at the same time. It includes 67 dual fast chargers equipped with advanced energy management technology designed to optimize charging and reduce pressure on the electricity network.

Zagreb Expands Sustainable Public Transport

The charging station is part of a wider effort to modernize Zagreb’s public transportation system and reduce emissions from urban mobility. City officials say the infrastructure will support dozens of new electric buses that will gradually replace older diesel powered vehicles. The facility also includes space for future expansion as demand for electric transportation increases. Planned upgrades include solar panels and covered charging areas, which could allow part of the electricity used for charging to come from renewable energy sources. The project was financed through Croatia’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan with support from the European Union.

Officials say investments in electric buses and charging infrastructure will help improve air quality, reduce long term operating costs, and support European climate goals. The Croatia electric bus charging station represents one of the country’s biggest investments in sustainable urban transport. Similar projects are expected in other Croatian cities as authorities continue developing cleaner and more efficient public transportation systems. As more electric buses enter daily service, Zagreb is expected to reduce emissions while providing passengers with a quieter and more environmentally friendly travel experience.
