Montenegro food prices could rise further as global food costs are projected to increase by more than 15% over the next 15 months. The international price surge is expected to affect the Montenegrin market and place additional pressure on consumers.
International consulting firms estimate that global food prices will rise by 11.8% in 2026, followed by another 4.8% increase in 2027.
Conflicts and Extreme Weather Drive Prices Higher
Several global crises are contributing to the expected increase. These include the war in Ukraine, the conflict between the United States and Iran, and difficulties with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Floods, wildfires and drought across Europe are also affecting food production and supply.
These combined pressures could result in higher Montenegro food prices because the country will not be protected from changes in the international market.

Grains, fruit, vegetables and dairy products are expected to experience the largest price increases.
