The incident at Futoška Market in Novi Sad has become the subject of political accusations after Miloš Vučević claimed that Ilija Srdanović, the first candidate on the Students’ List, led an attack on SNS activists.
Vučević said at a press conference that a woman involved in the incident, Ljiljana Cvetković, was struck in the face during the confrontation. He alleged that Srdanović crossed the street, approached SNS activists and called on other protesters to move toward them.
What Vučević Claimed Happened
According to Vučević, Srdanović directly led the incident and was responsible for what happened to Cvetković. Vučević also claimed that Srdanović later took a megaphone and thanked the protesters after they withdrew.
Serbian Times reported that portal 021 had previously described two incidents in Novi Sad that evening. The confrontation at Futoška Market reportedly happened several hours after an earlier incident involving SNS parliamentary candidate Vukašin Đoković and a flag belonging to the “Students Win” group.
A video included in the report shows Srdanović speaking after the incident. According to the article, he said the protesters had “done a good deed” and supported the Students’ List, while also referring to a future gathering in Novi Pazar.
Srdanović was contacted by the publication regarding Vučević’s claims. He said he was currently at work and did not want to comment on Vučević, adding ironically that he did not know who Vučević was.
Other Incidents Mentioned
Vučević also claimed that incidents involving SNS activists occurred in Mirijevo and Niš during the same day. He alleged that an activist in Mirijevo was pushed toward a road where a vehicle was approaching and that the person suffered injuries.
He further claimed that SNS activists were attacked while speaking with citizens in the Pantelej municipality of Niš. According to Vučević, one person allegedly approached them with a metal bar, resulting in one SNS activist being hospitalized.
Vučević said responsibility should not rest only with those who physically participate in incidents, but also with what he described as the people creating an atmosphere of division and conflict.
The claims regarding the incidents and the role of individuals mentioned in the report are attributed to Vučević; the article also includes Srdanović’s response and video footage related to the Futoška Market incident.
