Novak Djokovic has dropped out of the world’s top 10 tennis rankings, falling four places to No. 12 following his early elimination from the Shanghai Masters.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion lost to Hubert Hurkacz in the second round, resulting in a significant loss of ranking points.
Djokovic now has 3,090 ATP points, down 390 from the previous rankings, as the race for places at the season-ending ATP Finals intensifies.
Djokovic Faces Tough Race for ATP Finals
Despite dropping outside the top 10, Djokovic remains in contention for a place at the ATP Finals in Turin, scheduled to take place in approximately three weeks.
Only eight players qualify for the season-ending tournament, and several of Djokovic’s rivals are currently better positioned in the qualification race.
Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton are among the players competing for places, while the remaining spots are still being contested.
Djokovic’s participation is also uncertain given his decisions not to complete the previous two seasons in the same way as some of his rivals.
Sinner Leads Rankings as Djokovic Looks Toward Basel
Jannik Sinner remains at the top of the ATP rankings with 10,950 points, followed by Alexander Zverev with 10,070 and Carlos Alcaraz with 5,610.
Ben Shelton is fourth with 4,720 points, while Daniil Medvedev, Flavio Cobolli, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex de Minaur are also among the top-ranked players.
Frances Tiafoe and Arthur Fils have 3,325 points each, while Rafael Jodar is also listed ahead of Djokovic with 3,234 points.
Djokovic’s next scheduled appearance is the ATP 500 tournament in Basel, running from October 26 to November 1.
The event could provide an opportunity for the Serbian tennis star to improve his ranking and strengthen his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals.
