Republican congressional candidate Joe Mitchell presented President Donald Trump with a self-created award during a rally in Sioux City, Iowa, after praising the president and criticizing the Nobel Peace Prize Committee for overlooking him.
President Donald Trump received a “Man of the Century Award” during a campaign rally in Sioux City, Iowa, on Thursday, October 22, after Republican congressional candidate Joe Mitchell presented him with a framed certificate honoring what Mitchell described as the president’s contributions to America and humanity.
Mitchell, 29, joined Trump onstage during the rally and introduced the award, which he said he had created himself.
“I wanted to say, Mr. President, for the last 10 years, you kept this country more safe than any other president, ever,” Mitchell said, before bringing up Trump’s repeated complaints about not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.
“They’ve never given you the Nobel Peace Prize, by the way, which is a disgrace,” Mitchell told the president.
Holding up the framed certificate, he continued: “So, what I came up with, Mr. President, is the new award. It’s called the ‘Man of the Century Award.’”
Mitchell then called on CNN to show the certificate to viewers, declaring that Trump had done “more for humanity and for America than any other president ever.”
Trump accepted the award, shook Mitchell’s hand and passed the certificate to an aide standing nearby.
Trump Renews Complaints Over Nobel Peace Prize
The presentation came amid Trump’s continuing public criticism of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee for not awarding him the honor.
During a previous campaign rally in Greenville, South Carolina, Trump again complained about being overlooked. He also recalled meeting with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who received the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize and later presented her medal to Trump.
Trump argued that he deserved the prize for his claimed role in resolving international conflicts.
He also criticized the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize winner, South African jurist Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, questioning her background and accusing her of hostility toward Israel.
Pillay was awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to promote peace and international law. Her career includes serving as the United Nations high commissioner for human rights and chairing a UN commission of inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel. Israel has rejected accusations of genocide in Gaza made by the commission.
Trump also complained that he had not received a Pulitzer Prize, criticizing previous recipients whose reporting on Russia he disputed.
A Campaign Stop Before the Midterms
Mitchell’s presentation took place during Trump’s visit to Sioux City as Republicans campaign ahead of the November 3, 2026, midterm elections.
Mitchell is running for Congress in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District, where he faces Democratic candidate Lindsay James, according to The Independent’s report.
The rally brought Republican candidates and supporters together to promote the party’s campaign and demonstrate support for Trump in Iowa.
The “Man of the Century Award” adds to a collection of honors presented to Trump, including the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize, which FIFA President Gianni Infantino gave him in December 2025.
Unlike established international awards, Mitchell’s distinction was created specifically for the occasion, making the presentation another moment in the ongoing public discussion surrounding Trump’s pursuit of recognition for his presidency and international role.
Republican congressional candidate Joe Mitchell sits down with First Balkan Media for an exclusive interview. The interview is coming on Monday.
