Five Albanian-American organizations have joined forces across the United States to raise breast cancer awareness, promote early detection and support women affected by the disease.

The initiative, organized as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2026, brought together medical professionals, community leaders and volunteers in several American states.

Supported by Albanian-American philanthropist Fotini Allteni Kokeri, the campaign connected diaspora organizations in New York, Philadelphia, Florida and other communities around a shared public health mission.

The participating organizations included Albanians Fighting Cancer USA, the Albanian American Women’s Organization “Motrat Qiriazi” in New York and its Florida chapter, the Albanian American Dream Organization in Philadelphia, and the Albanian American National Organization in Naples.

Doctors and healthcare professionals participated in discussions about breast cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment.

Among the medical experts involved were Dr. Sarah Hoffe of Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida, Dr. Gentian Toshkezi from Philadelphia and several Albanian-American physicians working across the United States.

The events encouraged women to seek reliable medical information and discuss appropriate screening options with healthcare professionals.

Journalist and author Mira Kazhani also participated, presenting her book Another Day, which recounts her personal experience with breast cancer.

Kazhani discussed the challenges patients face in Albania and highlighted the importance of accessible healthcare and compassionate treatment.

Diaspora Organizations Strengthen Their Humanitarian Cooperation

The campaign also recognized the work of Albanians Fighting Cancer USA, which has supported healthcare institutions in Albania through donations of medical equipment.

Fotini Allteni Kokeri, who supported the initiative, emphasized the importance of cooperation among diaspora organizations rather than separate fundraising and awareness efforts.

The October events demonstrated how Albanian-American community groups can collaborate across state lines, bringing together professional expertise and volunteer networks.

Organizers expressed their intention to continue working together to support women affected by breast cancer and strengthen connections between the Albanian diaspora and communities in Albania.
