Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl LXI halftime show on February 14, 2027, marking his first performance at the NFL championship event.
The NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation confirmed the news on Monday. The show will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, near Los Angeles.
The announcement marks a new chapter in Jay-Z’s partnership with the NFL. His entertainment company, Roc Nation, has helped produce the halftime show and select its performers since 2019.
Now, the 25-time Grammy Award winner will take the stage himself.
Jay-Z Celebrates 30 Years Since His Debut Album
The announcement follows two concerts Jay-Z performed at SoFi Stadium over the weekend.
The shows formed part of his anniversary celebrations marking 30 years since the release of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt.
The rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carter, reflected on his career in a statement accompanying the announcement.
“From ‘Reasonable Doubt’ to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey,” he said.
“Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world’s biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true.”
Jay-Z has built a career spanning music, entertainment and business.
He became the first rapper inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
His achievements also include 25 Grammy Awards.
Will Beyoncé Join Jay-Z on Stage?
The announcement has already raised questions about potential guest performers.
The NFL mentioned Beyoncé, Jay-Z’s wife, among the artists fans might hope to see during the show.
However, organizers have not confirmed any special guests.
Beyoncé previously headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2013 and returned as a guest performer in 2016.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell welcomed Jay-Z’s decision to perform.
“When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him,” Goodell said.
He added that he was excited for audiences worldwide to experience Jay-Z’s performance.
The rapper follows recent halftime headliners including Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Usher, Rihanna and The Weeknd.
Kendrick Lamar’s 2025 performance became the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history and received an Emmy Award for outstanding music direction.
The Super Bowl halftime show regularly attracts a massive television audience, extending its reach far beyond American football fans.
Super Bowl LXI will air on ABC and ESPN, with streaming available through Disney+ and other supported services.
