The Mileva Project raised $133,532 in its first year to help Serbian-American children visit Serbia and discover their family roots. So far, 31 children from 10 US states have taken part in the program.

According to Serbian Times, the project received 94 donations during its first year. Families also visited more than 15 places across Serbia.

The program helps children learn more about their heritage. It also gives families a chance to share their language, culture and traditions.

Helping Children Connect With Their Roots

Many Serbian-American children grow up far from their parents’ or grandparents’ homeland. As a result, they may know Serbia mainly through family stories.

The Mileva Project aims to change that. Through visits to Serbia, children can explore the country and spend time with their families.

These trips also help younger generations understand their cultural background. For parents, they offer a chance to share memories and traditions.

Meanwhile, the project’s first-year results show support from donors who want to help Serbian families maintain these ties.

More Activities Planned for Children

The Mileva Project plans to expand its work with new activities. These include camps, language workshops and cultural visits.

The goal is to give more children a chance to explore Serbia and learn about their heritage.

However, the project has not yet announced confirmed dates for these activities.

For Serbian families in America, staying connected to their roots can be difficult. Programs like the Mileva Project offer one way to keep that connection alive.
