Tavče Gravče (Тавче гравче) is one of Macedonia’s most famous and beloved traditional dishes, often considered the country’s national dish. Its name literally means “beans in a baking dish.”
It is made with white beans, traditionally cooked and baked in a traditional earthenware clay pot, known as a tavče, together with onions, red peppers, paprika, garlic, oil and traditional spices. The beans are slowly baked until they develop a rich flavor and a delicious golden crust.
Traditionally served warm, often with fresh bread, Macedonian peppers and sausage, Tavče Gravče is a symbol of Macedonian home cooking, hospitality and culinary heritage. It is a dish meant to be shared with family, friends and the community.
Good food, great company, and Macedonian spirit — everyone is welcome!
