Rescue services evacuated 24 people, most of them trapped in snowbound vehicles, while authorities reported that all state roads of first and second priority remain passable despite severe weather. Meteorologists warn that cold temperatures and further snowfall are expected, prolonging difficult winter conditions in several regions.
Up to 60 cm of Snow Recorded in Two Locations
According to reports, snowfall has been particularly intense in mountainous areas, where measurements reached as much as 60 centimeters in two locations. Images from affected regions show roads and vehicles buried under snow, with strong winds creating additional difficulties.
One widely circulated video from Golija mountain captured a man standing in the middle of a fierce blizzard, illustrating the severity of conditions. The footage drew strong reactions due to the intensity of wind and snow visible in the scene.
Meteorologists described the current weather system as part of a broader cold front affecting the country, bringing heavy snow and low temperatures.
Meteorologist: Cold Weather and Snow to Continue
Meteorologist Nedeljko Todorović stated that Serbia is experiencing typical winter conditions driven by a cold air mass. He noted that snowfall and low temperatures are expected to persist, particularly in mountainous and central regions.
According to forecasts, temperatures remain below seasonal averages, and snow accumulation may continue in certain areas, especially at higher altitudes.
24 People Evacuated From Snowbound Vehicles
The Sector for Emergency Situations confirmed that 24 people were evacuated, most of them trapped inside vehicles stuck in heavy snow. Rescue teams intervened in areas where blizzard conditions reduced visibility and hindered movement.
Authorities reported that evacuations were conducted successfully and that emergency services remain on standby as weather conditions continue to pose challenges.
