Trump to Chair First Meeting of “Board of Peace” on Gaza

U.S. President Donald Trump will preside over the inaugural meeting of his newly formed “Board of Peace” in Washington, D.C. on February 19, 2026, with a central focus on efforts related to the Gaza Strip and the region’s reconstruction.

The Board of Peace is a U.S.-led international body launched by Trump to coordinate humanitarian aid, reconstruction, and peace efforts in Gaza after years of devastating conflict. It was officially established earlier this year and formally introduced by Trump in January at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

At the inaugural meeting, Trump is expected to announce that members have pledged more than $5 billion toward humanitarian assistance and rebuilding projects for Gaza – a small fraction of the estimated tens of billions needed for reconstruction.

Representatives from around 45–47 countries plus the European Union are set to participate, although Palestinian officials were not invited to join the board itself and several traditional U.S. allies declined full membership, citing concerns about the body’s mandate and its potential overlap with the United Nations’ role in global peace efforts.

Major issues expected to be discussed include:

  • Disarmament of Hamas militants and security arrangements, which remain unresolved.
  • Humanitarian aid access and how to ensure supplies reach civilians in Gaza.
  • Reconstruction funding and logistics for housing, infrastructure, and governance.

The Board aims to back a broader 20-point peace plan tied to a ceasefire negotiated in late 2025, which calls for an international stabilization force and governance reform in Gaza, though progress on these goals has so far been limited and many key questions remain unanswered.
