U.S. President Donald Trump, in his latest post on the social network Truth, has raised global tensions to a boiling point. He issued his most direct and brutal threat to Tehran to date, announcing destruction on a scale that, according to many military experts, subtly suggests the possible use of unconventional—and even nuclear—weapons.
“We will strike Iran 20 times harder than ever before. We will destroy targets that will prevent Iran from ever recovering as a nation. Death, fire, and fury will reign over them,” Trump wrote.
This rhetoric of “completely preventing the nation from recovering” comes at a time when the U.S.-Israeli military operation is facing difficulties on the ground, fueling suspicions that Washington may be considering radical military measures if the Strait of Hormuz is blocked.
