OpenAI has secured a staggering $122 billion in fresh funding, marking one of the largest capital raises in the history of the technology sector and pushing the company’s valuation to around $852 billion.
With this valuation, the company behind ChatGPT is now approaching the economic scale of entire national economies, highlighting the explosive growth and strategic importance of artificial intelligence in the global market.
The funding round attracted some of the world’s biggest tech and investment players, including Amazon, Nvidia, SoftBank, and Microsoft, signaling strong confidence in OpenAI’s long-term vision and its dominant position in the AI race.
According to the company, the massive investment will be used to accelerate the next phase of artificial intelligence development—particularly in building advanced infrastructure, data centers, and more powerful AI systems.
OpenAI is already seeing rapid growth. ChatGPT has become the leading consumer AI platform, with over 900 million weekly users and more than 50 million subscribers, while the company is now generating approximately $2 billion in monthly revenue.
The company is also working on a so-called “AI superapp,” which aims to combine chat, browsing, coding tools, and autonomous AI agents into a single ecosystem—potentially reshaping how individuals and businesses interact with technology.
Despite its explosive growth, OpenAI remains unprofitable and faces mounting pressure to justify its enormous valuation, especially as competition intensifies and questions persist about the long-term sustainability of the AI boom.
The historic funding round also comes ahead of a highly anticipated potential IPO, which could further cement OpenAI’s position as one of the most influential tech companies in the world.
