Man Dies in Cannon Accident During Easter Event in Croatia in Front of Hundreds of Spectators

A tragic accident overshadowed an Easter Monday event in Croatia’s Zagorje region after a man died during a public program involving a ceremonial cannon at Veliki Tabor Castle in the municipality of Desinić. According to the reports, the incident happened during the traditional “Easter Monday at Veliki Tabor” celebration, an event organized as part of a long-running holiday program that includes the presentation of historical gunpowder societies, demonstrations of traditional loading and firing, and ceremonial formations around the castle. Police were notified through the 112 emergency center at around 3:15 p.m., after which the area was secured and an on-site investigation was launched to establish the exact circumstances of the accident.

The reports say the man was killed during the firing of a cannon in Hum Košnički, while local authorities and Croatian media stated that at the time of the accident, there were at least 500 people at the site, including families with children. The event had been presented as part of the local cultural and historical heritage, but the celebration was abruptly halted by the fatal incident, which quickly turned a festive gathering into a scene of shock and mourning.
