Macedonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timčo Mucunski, said that the Strategic Dialogue with the United States reaffirms the country’s role as a credible ally and partner.
Mucunski is leading a high-level government delegation at the second session of the Strategic Dialogue between Macedonia and the United States, taking place in Washington, D.C.
As part of the working visit, Mucunski held a meeting with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a strong and long-term partnership.
“This dialogue is an important platform for advancing bilateral cooperation and a confirmation of our strong alliance and strategic partnership,” Mucunski wrote in a Facebook post, noting that the session was opened together with Brendan Hanrahan from the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.
Talks are focused on key areas including global and regional issues, defense and security, energy, economic cooperation, cybersecurity, digital resilience, as well as strengthening border security and addressing transnational threats.
According to Mucunski, the second session of the strategic dialogue underscores a shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and prosperity while further strengthening transatlantic ties.
During the meeting with Landau, the two officials emphasized the importance of operationalizing the strategic partnership through concrete initiatives and expanded cooperation in areas of mutual interest, aimed at benefiting citizens in both countries.
Discussions also covered cooperation within NATO, strengthening bilateral economic ties after a framework for a reciprocal and balanced trade agreement was aligned in February 2026, as well as energy security, diversification of energy sources, and regional connectivity.
The two sides exchanged views on developments in the Western Balkans and the European integration process. Mucunski highlighted the importance of continued U.S. presence and engagement in the region, describing it as a key factor for maintaining stability amid current global security challenges.
