Suspect Faces Attempted Murder and Arson Charges After Attack on Sam Altman’s Home

A Texas man has been charged after authorities said he carried out a Molotov cocktail attack on the San Francisco home of OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, in a case investigators described as deliberate and highly serious. Prosecutors said the suspect, Daniel Moreno-Gama, now faces attempted murder and arson-related charges following the incident.

Federal authorities said Moreno-Gama was arrested after investigators linked him to the attack and later searched his home in Texas. Officials in San Francisco said the case is being treated as more than a simple act of vandalism, arguing that the nature of the assault and the alleged preparation behind it point to a targeted act that placed lives at risk.

According to investigators, they also found the suspect with written material expressing hostility toward artificial intelligence. Reuters and AP reported that authorities recovered a document outlining anti-AI views, and officials said that material is now part of the broader investigation into motive. Law enforcement is examining whether the attack could meet the threshold for domestic terrorism.

Authorities said no injuries were reported, but prosecutors made clear that they view the incident as an attempted killing rather than only a property crime. San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said the alleged act endangered not only Altman but also others nearby, including people connected to his company.

The case has added another layer of tension to the already heated debate over artificial intelligence and the role of major technology companies in shaping it.
For investigators, however, the immediate focus remains narrower: whether Moreno-Gama acted with the intent to kill, how far his plans extended, and whether the charges will expand as the case moves through both state and federal court.
