New Bomb Threats Trigger Fresh Evacuations in Croatia as Police Check Schools and Kindergartens

A new wave of bomb threats has prompted fresh evacuations in Croatia, with police carrying out precautionary inspections at schools and preschool facilities in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County after anonymous warning emails were received on Monday morning. Croatian police said the message reached both the county police administration and a larger number of educational institutions at around 9 a.m.

According to the authorities, officers were immediately deployed and began checking the buildings in cooperation with school officials, following standard security procedures. Local media also reported that some kindergartens were affected, widening concern beyond the school system alone.

The latest alerts come after a string of similar incidents across Croatia in recent days. Earlier evacuations were reported in Zagreb, Split and Rijeka, while previous threats targeting schools in the Dubrovnik-Neretva area were ultimately found to be false after police inspections.

Croatian officials have already linked the pattern of repeated threats to a broader regional problem. Interior Minister Davor Božinović said last week that the bomb scare campaign appeared to bear the features of hybrid warfare and noted that Croatian police were cooperating with authorities in other European countries over servers and domains believed to be connected to the messages.

The current episode also fits into a wider Western Balkans situation, as similar false threats have recently been reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Macedonia. For now, the emphasis in Croatia remains on preventive checks and rapid response, while investigators continue trying to identify the source of the emails.
