Los Angeles Lakers fans may have dreamed of seeing Luka Dončić and Giannis Antetokounmpo on the same team, but a potential blockbuster move could face an unexpected obstacle.
According to reports cited by Serbian media, Dončić is not opposed to the idea of adding another superstar to the Lakers roster, but he reportedly does not want Austin Reaves to be included in any possible trade package for the Milwaukee Bucks star.
The Slovenian guard is said to have made it clear within the organization that he wants to continue playing alongside Reaves, whom he sees as an important part of the team’s future. The Athletic reportedly stated that Dončić would prefer the Lakers to keep Reaves even if the opportunity to pursue the two-time NBA MVP becomes available.
Reaves is coming off a strong regular season, averaging more than 23 points per game and proving that he can be a reliable offensive option. Although his playoff form reportedly declined after an injury, Dončić is believed to value his chemistry with the guard and the balance he brings to the team.
The situation creates a major dilemma for the Lakers: whether to preserve the current core around Dončić and Reaves or push for one of the biggest names in the NBA.
Speculation about Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks has intensified, with the Lakers frequently mentioned among possible destinations. However, any potential deal remains far from certain, especially since it is still unclear whether Giannis himself would be interested in a move to Los Angeles.
For now, the Lakers appear to be facing a difficult question — build patiently around Dončić and Reaves, or risk disrupting team chemistry in pursuit of another megastar.
