Haris Tabaković is expected to miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a serious injury during Borussia Mönchengladbach’s match against Hoffenheim, dealing a major blow to the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team shortly before the tournament. Reports state that the striker fractured a bone in his foot or ankle area after an awkward movement late in the match, forcing him to leave the field immediately.
Initial information suggested that the injury might not be severe, but further examinations reportedly confirmed a fracture that will require a recovery period of at least two to three months. Tabaković was immediately immobilized with a splint, while additional specialist examinations in Munich were expected to determine the full extent of the injury.
The injury comes at a particularly difficult moment for Bosnia and Herzegovina, which recently secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup after dramatic playoff victories against Wales and Italy. Tabaković had been included in coach Sergej Barbarez’s final squad for the tournament and was considered one of the important attacking options in the national team setup.
