Historic Yugoslav Meat Industry Giant Sold in Major Regional Deal

One of the most recognizable names from the former Yugoslav food industry, PIK Vrbovec, is entering a new ownership chapter after a major acquisition agreement was officially signed.

Investment group BOSQAR INVEST and Fortenova Group announced that they had reached an agreement under which BOSQAR plans to acquire a 100 percent stake in PIK Vrbovec, one of Croatia’s leading meat producers and processors.

The transaction marks another significant consolidation move within the regional food industry, with PIK Vrbovec continuing to hold a strong position in the meat processing sector decades after becoming a household name across the former Yugoslavia.

Founded in the socialist Yugoslav era, the company built its reputation through large scale production and regional distribution, eventually becoming one of the best known brands in the meat industry. Even today, PIK Vrbovec remains one of Croatia’s most important food producers, employing thousands of workers and operating extensive production capacities.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen BOSQAR’s presence in the food and agriculture sectors, while Fortenova continues reshaping its portfolio and focusing on strategic priorities. Company representatives emphasized that the agreement is intended to support further modernization, operational development, and long term market competitiveness.
