Citizens in Macedonia will soon have a new mobile application that should make it easier and faster to report emergency situations through the 112 emergency system.
The Crisis Management Center announced that the application, called “Where Are You,” will allow users to send their exact location when reporting an emergency. This could be especially important in situations where a person is injured, lost, unable to explain where they are or calling from an unfamiliar area.
The app is expected to improve communication between citizens and the 112 Operational Center. In addition to location sharing, users will be able to send photos and videos from the scene of an incident, giving emergency services a clearer picture of what is happening before teams arrive.
One of the most important planned features is direct video communication with the Operational Center. This could help operators assess the situation more quickly and give better instructions while police, firefighters, ambulance teams or other emergency services are being sent to the location.
The 112 number is Macedonia’s single emergency number and is used to report accidents, fires, medical emergencies and other urgent situations. The new app is expected to make the system more modern and more practical, especially in cases where every minute matters.
The application could also be useful for tourists and Macedonians living abroad who visit the country during the summer season. If they are unfamiliar with a location or cannot easily explain where they are, the ability to send exact coordinates could help emergency services respond faster.
Authorities have not yet announced the exact date when the application will become available to all users. Once launched, citizens will still be able to call 112 directly, while the app will serve as an additional tool for faster and more detailed reporting.
The main goal is to reduce delays, improve the accuracy of emergency reports and help services react more efficiently when lives, property or public safety are at risk.
