Indian President Droupadi Murmu has arrived in Macedonia for a high profile state visit aimed at deepening diplomatic relations, expanding trade partnerships, and honoring shared historical connections between the two nations. Upon her arrival, President Murmu was received with full military honors by Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova. Following the formal welcome ceremony, the two leaders held private bilateral talks, which were followed by a broader plenary session involving official delegations from both countries to discuss key geopolitical and economic initiatives.
As part of her visit, President Murmu is participating in several symbolic events that highlight cultural and historical respect. She will lay a ceremonial wreath at the tomb of the celebrated Macedonian revolutionary Goce Delčev at the Church of St. Spas in Skopje. Furthermore, both leaders will attend a special ceremony at the Museum of the City of Skopje to unveil a new bust of Mahatma Gandhi, symbolizing the enduring values of peace and freedom shared by both societies. Their cultural itinerary also includes a visit to the Mother Teresa Memorial House, honoring the iconic Nobel Peace Prize laureate who was born in Skopje and later dedicated her life to humanitarian work in India.
Beyond cultural diplomacy, the visit places a heavy emphasis on economic cooperation. The Presidential Cabinet, alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized a dedicated business forum where both presidents will address investors and business leaders. The gathering aims to highlight trade opportunities, encourage foreign direct investment, and create new economic avenues for Macedonian and Indian companies. The visit will conclude with a trip to the historic city of Ohrid, where the delegation will tour the renowned St. Naum monastery complex and other historic landmarks along the UNESCO protected lake region.
