Novi Sad is facing a severe heat wave as local groups call for stronger protections for residents, outdoor workers and vulnerable groups affected by extreme temperatures. The Novi Sad heat wave has increased concerns over public health risks and the need for additional measures during periods of dangerous heat.

The civic movement Bravo has urged authorities to introduce urgent actions to help people exposed to high temperatures, especially construction workers, delivery workers and others who spend long hours outdoors. The organization says workers need better protection during the hottest parts of the day when heat exposure can become a serious health risk.

Among the proposed measures are public cooling zones where residents can escape extreme temperatures, easier access to drinking water and changes to working conditions during heat waves. Supporters of the initiative say these steps could help reduce the impact of high temperatures on citizens.

The group warned that prolonged heat exposure can be especially dangerous for elderly people, individuals with chronic health conditions and workers involved in physically demanding outdoor jobs. Health experts say prevention and early protection measures are essential during periods of extreme weather.

Novi Sad, like many cities across the region, has experienced more frequent and intense heat waves in recent years. Experts explain that urban areas with large concrete surfaces and limited greenery can trap heat, creating higher temperatures than surrounding areas.

Officials continue advising residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the hottest hours, drink enough water and take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The Novi Sad heat wave has also highlighted a wider challenge faced by European cities as they search for better ways to adapt to rising temperatures.

Cities across Europe are increasingly investing in green spaces, cooling areas and improved protections for people most affected by extreme weather. Authorities and experts say adapting urban areas will become increasingly important as heat waves become more common.
