Petar Musa’s MLS goal secured a 2-1 road victory for FC Dallas over Austin and moved the Croatian international into sole possession of first place in the league’s scoring race. The strike was his 14th goal of the season.
Musa scored the decisive goal in the 73rd minute of Sunday night’s game. His finish restored Dallas’ lead after Austin had tied the match early in the second half.
The victory was FC Dallas’ first in MLS play since May 23, when the club defeated Colorado 2-1 in its final game before the World Cup break.
Dallas Moves Up the Western Conference Table
Lalas Abubakar opened the scoring for Dallas during stoppage time at the end of the first half. It was only his second appearance for the club this season.
Ervin Torres answered for Austin in the 57th minute, scoring the first MLS goal of his career. Austin’s record fell to 4-10-5 with 17 points.
Musa then struck in the 73rd minute to give Dallas the lead for good.
The victory improved Dallas’ record to 8-5-6 and gave the club 30 points. Dallas moved ahead of St. Louis and Real Salt Lake into fifth place in the Western Conference standings.
Musa Leads the MLS Scoring Race
Petar Musa’s MLS goal returned him to the top of the league’s scoring chart with 14 goals this season.
He now stands ahead of New York City’s Nicolas Fernandez and Hugo Cuypers, who left Chicago to join Mexican club Monterrey.
