Members of Windsor’s Serbian community recently gathered at the Serbian Heritage Museum for the grand opening of “Roots and Routes: A History of Serbian Migration to Windsor,” an exhibition dedicated to documenting the history and journeys of Serbian families who built new lives in the Canadian city. The event brought together community members and guests to celebrate an important part of Windsor’s multicultural history. Among those recognized during the opening was Dr. Roy Diklich, a Windsor physician whose interest in the stories of Serbian families led him to document their journeys from villages across the Balkans to Windsor. Through his work on a digital archive, Diklich is helping preserve family histories, cultural traditions and the stories connected to the places from which Serbian immigrants originated.
The opening also featured a presentation by Draga Dragasevich, who spoke about Serbian immigration and the many contributions Serbian Canadians have made to the Windsor community. The exhibition highlights how generations of immigrants helped shape the cultural and social character of the city while maintaining connections to their heritage. The Serbian Heritage Museum team was thanked for its work in preserving and sharing this history with the wider community. Organizers and supporters emphasized the importance of documenting family stories today so they can remain accessible to future generations and help descendants better understand their roots and the journeys that brought their families to Windsor.
